John Paul II Beatification Set for May 1 as Vatican Confirms Miracle
The late Pope John Paul II, whose death in April 2005 prompted a global outpouring of grief and demands that he be made a saint on the spot -- "Santo Subito!" as mourners cried -- will move a step closer to canonization when he is beatified on May 1, the Vatican announced Friday.

As expected, Pope Benedict XVI affirmed the judgment of Vatican medical experts and theologians that a French nun's neurological disorder had been miraculously cured after she prayed to the memory of John Paul in June 2005.

ODDLY COOINCIDENT: Ronald Reagan was on the same news pages, with son Ron confirming that he was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease from 1984 on. If John Paul II, linked closely to Reagan in world affairs, especially through Wm. Casey, is canonized, he becomes officially recognized as an ascended heavenly supplicant , whose ways on earth cannot thenceforth be challenged in the Catholic Church. Similarly, challenge to anything Reaganesque, after he survived the political bullet as has now penetrated Giffords' brain, could only be perceived as sacrilege. Thus, JPII's certified power to cure a French nun's neurological disorder, who had prayed that he entreat The Creator on her behalf, would retroactively restore (the illusion of) Reagan's health and vigor during the later Iran-Contra hearings. If all goes as planned -- and these most-most- highly ritualized group processes unfold according to their own narative thread, whatever else is happening -- the beginning and end of March, 2011, will be book-ended by JPII's Blessedness - infusing - Ronald Wilson Reagan revival: who took the bullet for us all; and Gabriella Giffords', who has done the same.
