Corporations have never been judicially regarded as "persons", though property ownership links them linguistically to the 14th amendment Citizens clause, and has from 1839 (cf. argument in Georgia bank law case). "Corporate personhood" is a quasi-concept, a self-negating construct, dangerously entertained even as subject of (meta-) discourse, since that gives it collective cache. Considering whether 'there was such a thing' even for legal purposes, is a way of importing non-being to consciousness through sign use by people who either do not know they are persons, or do not know what a person is.

This position re "corporate personhood" may be challenged by citing legal language which blurs the distinction between collective and individual entities (<= objects of reference), notably in favor corporations-as-persons (=> ~S*/S*^). ~S*/S*^ ("backward token S S* Squared") is the psychosemiotic form illustrated by the conjunction of "corporations" and "persons" for purposes of legislation under moral law. A. -allowing terms of individual self-reference to be defined through state law answerable to anybody's religion. Freedom from this form of oppression-by-definition was purchased by the blood of "Protestants" in the 30 years of religious wars in Europe. The principle of separation of Church and State, as recognized in the US Constitution's First Amendment, derives from this provision in the nation's social contract it defines. No person is required by citizenship to respond to, or tolerate, treatment under laws defined by any other person's, or group of persons', religion. This freedom is as sacrosanct in America as sanctity itself.

Elaboration

For purposes of present discussion, let "US Citizen" be defined as persons, irrespective of race, gender or other inessential differences, legally governed under the U.S. Constitution. (Note deliberate ambiguity in 'legally'. Disagreement in attitude, or in values, is implicated, but rationally constrained predications are possible pending alignment. It is necessary to 'work down' this way from higher-to-lower level applications, reserving commitments. The original, unspoken social contract shared by the group of (largely) white, Protestant Christian men who came together to define it, circa 1800, has been shredded. This shredding has a politics, a history, an outcome.

The connective "->" is used here to link tokens of signs actually used (and/or directly applicable to those used) in daily news cycle communication* by the main stream media (spcf. TV, movies,cultural events, war, and political meta-level discourse). It can be read "implies*" (or, reversed, "<-", "is implied by*") the connected sign uses, according to rules tacit in the communication process itself; especially including unconscious group-fantasies and delegate-positions from which these are acted out. Especially these, because acting out unconscious group-fantasies from the delegate position of consciousness shared by individuals ... explains why identity politics* -> war. One notes, first of all, that it won't do to reply "It depends on what particular source is specified. The river Nile was source of fertilizing waters, and the source of the source of these waters could be asked about (e.g.,"rains in East Central Africa"). This could be generalized to "source of all rivers", or even "waters", without generating obvious non-sense. Such extrapolation of possible cognitive, however tenuous on its own account, is already precluded by subsuming all specified instances of "sources" under whatever it means for any one of them, or all, to be a "source". At this supervenient point, where the general term turns back on itself before ever it is applied, 'cognitive' becomes problematic. This can be established through Russell's paradox of Predicate of all Predicates, which leads to the conclusion that the general term "predicate" does not stand for a possibly existing thing, but for what he called an 'illegitimate totality'. What "predicate" stands for is a purely 'linguistic creation', logically nullifying itself, as it were. David Sirota's tirelessly documented thesis in Back To Our Future is that "the 1980's remains central to our society, our politics, our everything" (p. 217). With the sub-thesis that "the 80'sTM " themselves were predicated on Back to the 50's as future, as in Reagan's unabashed nostaglia and Marty MacFly's character. The post-'08 Obama years have replayed, and are continuing to replay the '80s, which, in turn, replayed the 50's. Narratively by-passing the Hippie 60'*s Vietnam war protest era entirely, while at the same time amplifying the downside as condemnable, anti-patriotic background that prevented U.S. from winning. The way Sirota weaves this meta-tale of two replay tales is psychohistorically epiphanous, its broad outlines (except for unacceptable analysis of 'racism' at the end) indisputable, confirmed in the experience of those who lived through those years and these, to the extent they were connected by the collective cudlture. It is with gratitude for these steping stones that I am moved to 'take it up another level from the other side', tracing a meta-physical story from his meta-narrative. '88, token of year and collective-individual sign-use (S*iv,v), can be taken as pivot of conscious-to-unconscious deviation from America's Idea. Since 8 is the number of the letter H, 88 is HH to this pre-conscious memory connection, used in neo-Nazi circles as code for Heil Hitler! That illustrates how one unconscious connection leads to ("=>") another. It also shows how snakebrain poison can enter psychosemiotic processing through codes.
