Positionality

THE CONTRADICTORIAN POSITION

(Q. Could One Person be Right in thinking everyone else was wrong? How?)


I. The subject. What this is about.

Colloquialisms in English for psychosemiotic processes others are assumed to share include these:

'official story', 'what every body believes', 'accepted opinion', 'prevailing point of view'

These terms descriptive of a type of content communicated in the media of mass communication, and personal conversation. In objective terms, they indicate a common flow of brain 1 process under sign use. ("Ask anyone: they will all tell you the same thing in so many words.") Such phrases are used ubiquitously to categorize linguistic 'fronts', 'lines' or 'positions' aligned with other sign-uses, e.g.:

"of 911", "We are the good guys", "Iraq had WMD",
"its fucked up"

That to which such extended phrases as "The official story of 911" apply, are present and known to consciousness through the sense of 'audience': that space imagined to be full of people in a dark 'theatrical' womb-surround-- siblings in the first row, listening to one warble, twang, bellow into microphones or otherwise act out ('show off'). Audience* is Quadrant III (NE corner) of the Cartesian Scintellizer*. On it, I -> III -> II -> IV bow-tie line, swooping lower-left (I), up, over (II) and out (IV) lower-right, traces: I - processing in the anatomical apparatus; II. Consciousness under Sign Use; III. Audience; IV. Historical Output; completion (what the moving finger wrote). On this schema, The sense of Audience includes all that a consciously speaking person assumes about the actual containers of their planetary body, from birth to death, womb to cosmos. That would be the totality addressed As a totality. This is how the CS* Squares consciousness.


II. Consciousness

Consciousness is used here as the term for the awareness that accompanies those manifestation of the planetary body which constitute its content.

1. Content of consciousness under sign-use is taken as worked up by processes of the anatomical preparation to the degree of articulate self-awareness that any two, or indefinite number of other, people will share identical content under identical sign-use as shown by identical associations and applications.

In addition to its signature S*, a content of consciousness includes, as components: A. (a) Quality-complex; and B. (an) Intensity (dynamic, force factor). In abbreviated terms:

where "=>" stands for "psychosemiotic definition". (Content of consciousness is defined as an occurrence in which use of a sign -- S* -- articulates the presence of quality Ql with Intensity v.)
Thus formula is provided merely for succinctness, and has no further use in the CS* schema than to link the respective categories of the phrase "content of consciousness under sign-use" which is taken as primitive.

2. In addition to its being 'capped off', or completed by its S*, consciousness is also characterized by

A. Present duration (continuous, with respect to thought, which is intermittent flow through of distinct brain function; discontinuous w/r/t ebb and flow of the sleep-wake neurological intensity threshhold).

B. State. Variations of Intensity-factors can alter conscious flow of process as a totality, as in the use of psychedelic drugs and other induced flows of energy (via exercizes, elixirs, tonics, electronics)

The CS* does not presuppose a map* of states,, though it would be useful to have one for other purposes, perhaps. It concerns only the energy expended through S* manifestations, whatever organic three-brain being state of consciousness they express. One foremost gradient between psychedelic state polarities is "high" vs. "stoned".

C. Positionality .. Every actual content of consciousness occupies a place in the schemata of S* used to address the Audience, which is assumed to exist in, and share, identical localizations*: as in, on the same planet with the same history. (Communication with "Aliens" is a fantasy construct, and was once recognized as such. Then came X-files.). The position and situation of the planetary body as object common to the person's subjective and the Audience's external awareness, is one determinant if S*, defining their positionality in space. However, there is another, inner Positionality of consciousness, determined by the 'lines' and 'positions' they align with in communication. Older heads are given credit for being able to 'hold the line' on a certain topic or issue, against challengers, and having individual 'positions on issues". If these are self-consistent and Square, they are said to have become wise.

4. Contradictorian Positionality: new here

When majoritarian opinion is rejected because it predicates on internal text x (negated) token self-refuting constructs for primitive sign uses, it requires confronting and rejecting in formal terms as an impossible completing totality.

. Ex.: praising democracy as a good thing because it brings more peaceful, stable nations, while creating conditions that undermine its possibility. This must be confronted as wrong in its own terms; not just opposed, but opposed through what it proposes. What they do is not just non-democratic, but anti-democratic.

A contradictorian position is required to confront such self-contradictions deliberately squared as truth. Confronting doctors who have spread diseases which they sell medicine to treat, is one paradigm twist. Listening them defend the right to do that, or predicating on it as OK, challenges defense by the contradictorian position.

A. Reconstructing What Is through illocutionary force.

Ilocutionary force is the effect that the fact-stating content of a communication has on Brain 1 consciousness. The "informational" or textual function of the signs used in it.

The magnitude of its effect depends on the congruence of the relevance of the information with the motive/agendae defining the situation. Analogy, more or less strict, is the loom on which the mental tapestry is woven. Strict analogy is one-one correspondence of two things x and y when:.

Definition: "x is strictly analogous to y" = ((x,y)(P)( Px <=> Py)),

where P is a property (point-set, S*-category, etc.) specified independently of x and y.



Theory of individual objects

The individuals in the universe are objects referred to by ultimate names. Ultimate names are 'rigid designators'. Rigid designators are substitution instances of x,y for all P in the field of application of a.

B. DECONSTRUCTING GENESIS

Perlocutionary force is the emotive/motivational effect of brains2/3 on consciousness. It is linked to what can be pictured. It is content of the 5 senses qua phenomenal (S*), re-presented to consciousness in the upper triad through the token: illustration, narrative, mythopoesis, metaphor, cartoon, sight gag, etc. (Cf. G. Gurjieff: the 5 objective characteristics)

II. Three Brain Analysis

Brain 2 and brain compete for textual consciousness as soul vrs. instinct.

The fundamental inner moral act is the orientation of consciousness toward the results of the flow of process through brain 2 or brain 1. There is an inner stop-valve, or choice-switch, for opening one or the other, and both at the same time with brain 1 in states of action from totality. When the switch opens the valve to brain 2, consciousness processes what is called "soul" in objective psychosemiotics. Opening the valve to brain 3 brings, most relevantly in the normal flow of life, the sexual impulses, and, with them, the various mechanisms (automatic behavioral manifestations) the neuro-psychic trajectory has deposited to deal with the energy. "Soul" is not intrinsically opposed to "Sex", though the brain 3 function is stilled in church and school by making the children sit down and shut up. This allows brain 2 content to take the lead in forming the cognitive memory functions (hippocampal memory). These carry little insistence without desire to learn and know, which is the brain 1/2 confluence defining the "as above" for the brain 1/3 confluence "so below".

The Upper Triad of Sign-uses, theological, philosophical, existential (S*7-6-5) require participation of the soul brain in order to achieve conscious personal results. It is the soul brain that differentiates the "I" of S*5 through the "Theos-" of S*7", by way of the "Logos" of S*6. Socrates defined philosophy as "tendance of the soul". "God", in psychosemiotic terms, is the token of the completing totality given under sign use (S*). (The S*^ of the Universe, or Universe*^.)

As as sign-use, God* has a Dark Side. That is because the totality of the three brain experience of an individual includes (as has only recently been realized by the intellectual world) the fetal origins all share in the womb. This is a source of 'innate', but not identical (a distinction not available to Descartes), formed content of brain 3. The Placental Container of the original conscious formation flooding back through a "we" group-fantasy of siblings in a single Mother's Womb Surround: Phantom Nurturer ("from whom all blessings flow" -- the Logos-ecstatic side of God*) v. Poisonous Sea Monster. The Dark side of God* as a sign opens the gate to the Reptile Brain, though is not identical with it, and it is a calumny against religion to assumes its influence derives only from opposing the lower flow of process. (fearing punishment for 'listening to the voice of satan' saying "sex is wrong, but that's OK."). With the inner separation between the work of the two brains fixed in consciousness, soul and sexuality do not necessarily compete as controlling functions. Jung notes, as an aside, that one thing that drove primitive people to uncontrollable mass violence was being subject to "loss of soul". Interpreted here, that would be loss of the active psychosemiotic force of their God*.

Such would be the developmental opposites crystalizing as the formed personality, largely unchanged after 6-7 years of age.

as strict analogy of the story of how the three brains relate to consciousness in the adult, having transited from fetal origins through Oedipal development, as two already structured unconscious strata, or levels, of process expended in manifestation of personality.

ADDED: A Cheney quotation cited by Huffington illustrates how these are linked in the reptile brain: "the question was no longer if the U.S. would attack Iraq...the only question was when." (From Time, May 2002) If - When morphs over by letter substitution to If -Then . Temporal morph contiguity => implication (always completed in a conscious present presence by an act of reasoning). This reconstructs one half of Hume's analysis of cause as the reproduction of the temporal continuity of the reptile brain with the substitute word use. Bertrand Russell used this simulantity or 'immediacy'
characteristic of acts of deductive reasoning to argue that, if articulation of knowledge is given logically, in the spread of a deductive system, it is entirely possible that, whatever its content at any moment in human history, the entire universe was created five minutes ago, complete with all memories and every evidence discoverable indicating otherwise. This is the textualist's metaphysic of presence, which 'mystics' or esoterics textualize as "the eternal now", or some such. Russell showed that such S*, and the position of consciousness they tokenize, can be framed in formal logical terms (or the metavocabulary of such). (alternates*: "solipcism of the present moment", the "Om" sound, ullulation and music as qualitative content.)

Tokens: (the) present, presence, consciousness, Omnipresent Okhidanokh. Present presence to the present is a kind of energy --. Omni- (always) x -present (consciousness) => the Okidanokh --
processed through all three-brain function proceeding simultaneously as a unit.

It is unique to this system of psychosemiotic that tokens occurring in the present are the manifestation of it as a particular (and particularizing) energy. The Present* squares itself in meaningful pronounciation (an instance of S*^). This is given a name in the Gurdjieff system I am adapting: Omnipresent Okidanokh. It is the Second Grade energy proceeding from His Endlessness on the Most Holy Sun Absolute, blending active, passive and neutralizing forces according to the sacred law Triamizikamno, penetrating the totality of the universe simultaneously. The First Grade energy proceeding from His Endlessness on the Most Holy Sun Absolute manifesting through the Omni-present Okidanokh is called Etherokrilno.

If the primary material form of energy flowing through the organism is taken as its principle fluid, blood, the arousal that goes with its flow will folow the paths of kundilini. Freud used "libido" to express what is felt2 as this arousal. Wilhelm Reich linked sexual arousal leading to orgasm ("involuntary convulsive orgasmic response") as an interchange between the body and a cosmic force, the orgone energy ocean. This coincides with Kepler and other's notion of an all pervasive subtle force penetrating the universe, like light. The Omni-present Okidanokh would manifest as White light, and ecstatic pleasire illumination through the soul brain. These are specific phenomena.

III. The differends: Space v. Tokenspace

Space (physical) -- container of the body (all three brains)
Tokenspace -- container of the world of brain 1 .
Illustration. You are parked in a University parking lot watching students and faculty stoll along the sidewalks, into the library, carring books, talking. Their bodies are contained in a common physical space; their minds, as conscious content undersign-use, are contained in Tokenspace.

Bodies interact in physical space firstly, i.e., sans comminication, through brain 3. This is the reptile brain controlling response to threats, (fear), food (taste, smell), and genital stimuli. Persons interact in tokenspace through brain 1, presupposing perception, appealing to intuition for higher totalities. Brain 2 can be bypassed, when brain 1 is calculating defense against fear, obtaining food and enjoying sex exclusively and all the time. The token tautology "RIGHT is RIGHT" (example of S*^) can be, and actually is used (by Oliver North on Fox News, for instance) to "square the reversal" of rationally consistent moral behavior. It can be confronted and corrected ONLY in Tokenspace, and that by 1. distinguishing text from token in the meme itself, so that it is taken as predicating the moral right of the pro-Bush political right (same token, different text) , and 2. reversing the would-be effect of the tautology by flipping the token over on its other textual side, as it were, within the sign-use itself.

The judgment that something (...x*...) is "right" proceeds from the position of consciousness that squares brain 2 with brain 1. This is the content of Kant's Categorical Imperative: x* is right => x Ought To Be. The existence of the categorical imperative, itself, Kant took to be the only rational argument for the existence of God. It is an imperative that takes precedence in rational, reflectively sustained moments, over the neurophysiological (hormonal, chemical, traumatic, etc.) imperatives to which conscious content are subject. In the considered judgment of such calm moments pondering the sense and aim of existence itself, the constraint of the categorical moral imperative is judged -- a meta-judgment, subsuming a pre-defined S* totality -- superior to, and over-riding the influx of brain 3 into brain 1. Both can be there simultaneously, leading Freud to speculate on their inner metaphysical unity as different forms of the same energy aroused in the genitals, the "soul" taken as sublimated libido. Discrimination and work necessary for tokens of the moral imperative to gain functional influence on consciousness, walking the walk and talking the talk, would be a meta-moral existential imperative, internal obedience to which is required to distinguish completion of the totality under it, or under the sway of the pleasure (fear, necessity) principle. This last is what some call a "materialist metaphysic". This is a correct contrast of energy forces
competing for/in consciousness, but incorrectly labeled. "Soul", on the three brain theory of sign-use, is as "material", in the sense of formed energy impulse, as the urge to kill, or run away from danger. It is an energy-impulse formation of a higher, entirely independent world.


The predication of something* as "right" predicates of it that it "ought to be". Since there is only one World continually extending from a given perspectival standpoint in physical space, whatever happens in it must be compatible with whatever else happens in it. This is the common world on planet earth that three brained beings inhabit. For that reason, the three perpindicular-but-not-parallel directions of lines described in TokenSpace through brain 1, which includes its own perceptual body with brains 3 and 2, constitute an intersection, or squaring, of space through/in tokenspace. When God is used correctly, at the moment, it squares tokenspace by its completing totality, including all that is given in the three dimensions.
